Sanskriti School of Dance

Sanskriti School of Dance is amongst the upcoming Indian dance companies in the USA. It was founded in 2005 and is based in New Jersey. Sanskriti perpetuates India’s cultural heritage by teaching and performing the ancient dance form of Bharatanatyam. This dance form is based on the dance treatise called the Natya Shastra, which dates back to over 2000 years. The performing arts wing strives to expand the tradition’s expressive range through innovative projects, outreach programs, and collaboration with other artists.

The company has staged various productions throughout the USA in St.Louis, Washington, and San Diego, and internationally in London and India. The school has also performed in Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival 2019, Milford Dance Festival 2018 and 2019, New York Theater Festival 2024, Erasing Borders Dance Festival 2024 among other.

Sanskriti’s artistic director Chitra Ramaswamy is a Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and choreographer. Chitra is also the co-founder of Navadarshana annual dance retreat and NJ Natyasangamam, an organization to recognize and promote young talents in Bharatnatyam.
